A Trip Around the Sun
I am fortunate to celebrate another trip around the sun. For the occasion I spent the night with my family atop the Continental Divide at the Granite Butte Lookout Tower. It's hard to believe you can actually rent a fire tower from the United Forest Service! We had amazing conditions. We have stayed here before when the wind howled at hurricane strength and all you could see was fog ripping by the windows. This time, the winds were calm, skies were clear and the temperature, for early October at 7,600', was very pleasant. We even saw the Aurora Borealis, Milky Way, and the launch of a SpaceX rocket from Los Angles, California which was the icing on the cake!
