American False Hellebore begins to bloom in the higher elevations of Montana in July. This extremely striking (and poisonous) plant is also known as corn-lily. While the flowers are pretty, it is the leaves that steal the show. . This plant always catches my eye because of the geometric patterns the leaves exhibit, especially if there are several plants growing alongside each other in a cluster – the swirling symmetric shapes fit together attractively and the complementary angles, texture and contrast of light and shadow has always been a joy to stop and get ‘lost in’ for a moment. Do you agree?
