The Night the Sky Danced Over Helena (vertical)
A stunning ray of aurora light streams down from the night sky over Helena, Montana

On May 10, 2024, Earth experienced the strongest geomagnetic storm in 21 years. The now infamous sunspot, known as AR3664, unleashed more than 50 solar flares, including powerful X-class flares, the strongest category of its type. These solar storms directly impacted our planet, shaking up our magnetic shield and triggering widespread auroras over North America. The northern lights were visible as far south as Alabama during this event. The storm was significant enough to cause temporary disruptions in satellite signals and induce electrical currents on Earth’s surface. Overall, it was the most impressive display of this natural phenomena that I have witnessed in my life!
